News came out yesterday that Alex Rodriguez tested positive for steroids in 2003. If this is true, and all signs point to it being true, this could be the decisive blow the era. The theory was that you could ignore McGwire, Sosa and Bonds but you didn’t have to ignore the whole era because of A-Rod. Because if he became the all-time home run champ and arguably the best offensive producer since Babe Ruth that we could say the whole era wasn’t tainted. But this news might invalidate all of that. The question is, what does this do to baseball and all the stats that the fans of it love.

Rodriguez isn’t neccesarily one the wholesome guys who could destroy fans’ trust in the entire game, but he is close. Bonds was also a paraiah. McGwire took Andro. Clemens was a a jerk. A-Rod wasn’t a bad guy. He has a reputation of being greedy and not being able to win the big game. But he wasn’t a guy everyone hated (I don’t think). It’s unlikely we will know the full extent of this for at least a week or so. It could take a while to sort it all out, but this could be a big turning point for the “Steroid Era”
