Actors I don’t give enough love to
movies February 22nd, 2009It’s not much of a secret that my favorite actors are Matt Damon, Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Mark Wahlberg and Ed Norton. But the more I think about it, the more I think that there are two more names that should be on that list: Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.
The thing about Denzel is that I only own a couple of movies he was in. Training Day which not only is an amazing movie, but netted Denzel an Oscar. If by some chance you HAVEN’T seen this movie, put it on the top of your list. The other movie I own, Out of Time, isn’t a great movie, but it has Eva Mendes and has a twist, which I love. I have seen The Siege a million times but have never bought it. The thing is, he has made so many great movies. I just recently saw He Got Game and The Hurricane but both were solid. I also loved American Gangster and John Q was pretty good. And I haven’t even seen some of his better known movies yet: Remember the Titans, Crimson Tide, Pelican Brief and Malcolm X. Maybe when I see those I will elevate him to favorite status.
The other guy was Denzel’s costar in American Gangster, Russell Crowe. I also own two Crowe movies, Gladiator and Mystery, Alaska, which is a much better movie than Out of Time. Add it in Oscar nominated performance in The Insider and the stellar and often untalked about L.A. Confidential. 3:10 to Yuma was surprisingly good and conspiciously abscent from my viewing list is A Beautiful Mind which I still haven’t seen. Crowe is about one movie away from cracking my favorites list, and between that, Body of Lies and the upcoming State of Play I think it might happen.
I don’t know if there is anyone else that would make the list, but who knows.
