The Mets are apparently about to release Josh Fogg. Fogg will forever be remembered by White Sox fans as the 3rd piece (along with Kip Wells and Sean Lowe) in the infamous Todd Ritchie trade.

The Sox traded Fogg who had logged 13 solid IP in the Majors to that point along with Wells, who was supposed to be a frontend rotation guy someday and Sean Lowe, a middling reliever for Todd Ritchie who the Sox saw as veteran who could solidfy their rotation.

Ritchie was terrible (5-15, 6.06 ERA) and was gone after one year. Sox fans thought this one would long be regretted. Not so much though. Wells strung together two solid years before falling apart. He twice led the NL in losses. He is still hanging around as a middle reliever, but his career ERA is 4.71. Fogg has been worse, with a 5.03 ERA and a losing record. He is still hanging around as a reliever. Lowe lasted two more seasons and was ineffective in both.
