I want to preface this by saying I don’t know if I will see any of these movies in the theatre (or at all) but going through IMDb’s calender to see all movies coming out in 2009. These are the 10 that intrigued me the most, in (planned) release date order:
The Year One
Basic Plot: Two lazy cavemen (?) get banished and set off on a journey through the ancient world.
Why does it intrigue me: If that plot sounds weird, it’s not just you. Apparently a screwball comedy of sorts. Why did it catch my eye? Well Michael Cera makes his 2nd appearance on this list playing one of the cavemen. The other? My brother from another mother Jack Black plays the other. Oh, and Harold Ramis wrote and directed it. Someone compared it to Meatballs which I never saw. Apparently the movie also has Oliver Platt, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Hank Azaria, Paul Rudd and Ramis himself. This has flop written all over it, but who knows. Rental for sure.
Release Date: June 19th
Public Enemies
Basic Plot: A movie about John Dillinger and the FBI’s attempts to catch him in the ’30s.
Why does it intrigue me: A side note, if you want to team two the hottest, trendiest stars for an action/drama, who do you go with? If you said Christian Bale and Johnny Depp, then this is your movie. Depp plays Dillinger and Bale plays the FBI bureau chief. Billy Crudup (Almost Famous) plays J. Edgar Hoover which is a nice touch. The plot is what really gets me into this movie. I am not big on Depp. I acknowledge he is talented but he hasn’t made a lot of movies I love. Maybe this one changes it. Bale’s career has really taken off since he became Batman. This guy has been around for almost 20 years though (amazing since he is only 34). I bet my dad would see this in the theatre. I could be persuaded.
Release Date: July 1st
