I was exposed to Alan Sepinwall via Bill Simmons’ BS Report podcast but I really enjoy his reviews. Everything he said about “June 17 1994″ and “The Two Escobars” hits the right spot. Both of these docs were excellent additions to the 30 for 30 series.

A new lawyer show set in Las Vegas starring Jim Belushi and Jerry O’Connell. Also Jurnee Smollett, fresh off a guest stint on Friday Night Lights (but better known as Olsen twin’s friend Denise on Full House) and Natalie Zea (from Dirty Sexy Money and Hung) also have regular roles. The show looks part comedy, part legal drama and might be worth a look.

The long rumored paid version of Hulu has been announced. For $10 a month you get access to more than the five most recent episodes of a show. Also there will be other content that is only available to paying customers. I think this is going to perfect for a lot of people who don’t have TVs, but if all it gives you is recent episodes any die hards won’t really need it. It will appeal more to people who are too busy to keep up on shows all the time and will use it to get caught up when they have time. I think ultimately Hulu will have to offer no-ads or higher quality content to make it worth it.

I love TV Squad. It’s really the only TV blog I read (other than Alan Sepinwall who I found through Simmons). Chris Jordan on why he still watches Entourage hits home somewhat. I just re-watched the entire series leading up to Season 7 premiering last night (a full blog post on that is coming soon).

I watch Entourage mostly because it’s funny but also because it provides a view into the world of Hollywood. Living in a “flyover state” doesn’t give me much insight in what it’t like to live in Hollywood. And the ability to live vicariously through these four guys is great.

One of the reasons I was most excited about Parenthood this time last year was Maura Tierney. I have heard that the original pilot with her (instead of Lauren Graham) was much different. Tierney is apparently ready to return from breast cancer to star in a new legal drama alongside Rob Morrow, from one of my past faves, Numb3rs.

Supposedly the first trailer for the new HBO series Boardwalk Empire that has had sound. This show has all sorts of potential. Created by Terrance Winter who worked on The Sopranos and the pilot was directed by Martin Scorsese. It will debut in the fall.

Only six more weeks away. It does not look like it’s going to disappoint. It’s obvious they are bringing Angelina back just to create conflict. It’s gonna be crazy.

Sad news, but this has become the trend lately. Shows announcing well in advance when they will end and working towards that instead of trying to hang on for too long. It gives the writer’s more of a chance to plan things out long term and not end up with too many filler episodes. But:

Another point is one that I would miss if Weiner follows through with his decision. The idea that Mad Men would take us through the 1960s into the next decade. So far, we’re still in 1963. There are seven years left of the decade to be reflected in the lives of these characters, including the entire counter-culture revolution, the women’s liberation movement, the Great Society and the Vietnam War. Aren’t you interested in how Mad Men would treat all that and more?

This is something a lot of fans/critics have said. There are so many things that are coming up in the timeline of the show that would be great to see them tackle.

My take is that people who don’t have cable and use Hulu as a major source of content will be willing to pay $10 a month. But I think most people will go with Netflix which has a much bigger catalog.
